E.W. Bliss only built two of the presses in 1951 for the Department of Defense (Navy) and this is the only one known in existence.  These is the largest (4,000 ton) Knuckle-Joint press that they ever built.
 
This press was totally rebuilt in 1998 at a cost of $2 million.  Besides a total mechanical rebuild the also installed a wet (hydraulic) clutch and new Allen-Bradley (Pannel-View) controls.
 
The press was taken out of service about two years but remained under power in their plant.  As part of their prevenitive maintainence (PM) program, the press was cycled weekly for a few hours.
 
I have the master set of E.W Bliss drawings (general assembly drawing attached) and a breakdown of all weights.
 
Total weight of the press is 670,000 # and the press stands 40' above ground.
